Zeenat Aman is a veteran Bollywood actor. She has just revealed that she smoked real chillums, it was while filming the iconic song ‘Dum Maro Dum’ from the 1971 musical drama “Hare Rama Hare Krishna”. The Dev Anand directorial song launched Zeenat to stardom, featuring her playing the role of a drug addict.

In a recent Instagram post, the actress shared her behind-the-scenes experiences while shooting the song in Kathmandu. Zeenat Aman recalled that director Dev Anand had rounded up a group of hippies from the streets to feature in the song. The hippy extras were extremely thrilled, as they got to pack their chillums with hashish, enjoyed some free food, and were additionally getting paid for their role.

Zeenat said, “Now Dev Saab wanted authenticity in this sequence. My character, the drug-addled Janice, had to look stoned. And the easiest way to achieve this was to partake in the hippy offerings! So there I was, still in my teens, gamely taking long pulls from their chillum for take after take.”

Aman was caught up in the excitement. She said “something of a flower child” in the 1970s. Her mother was not amused but rather furious when she found out what had happened. She gave the senior crew members a tongue-lashing for allowing her daughter to do drugs.

She added, “By the time we wrapped the day’s work I was high as a kite! I was in no state to return to the hotel in that happy, dizzy and slightly gormless haze. So some of the team members packed me into a car. And they took me on a drive to a beautiful vantage point. There in the cold mountain air, I contemplated the Himalayas and slowly, peacefully came down from my high.”
